Have been using the Champion for the cracking of my roasted beans. Just did a roast with the Ivory Coast beans, 2#. Put them through the Champion and 3/4 of the way through they started to grind rather than crack. What am I doing incorrectly? Feeding too fast, type of bean, etc?
Thanks

Are you putting the roasted beans directly into the Champion? Sorry if I'm misunderstanding the question. I usually winnow, then zing them in a food processor before grinding. It warms up the mass and is about the consistancy of chunky peanut butter.

Hotglass,
Are you using the Champion with the screen off to crack the nibs? If so, did you clip out the finger guard? That needs to come out (DON"T STICK YOU FINGER UP THERE WITH IT OFF of course).

Re the first question....I am using the Champion as a cracker after I roast the beans. Re the question from Alchemist....yes I have the screen off. By finger guard are you referring to the the bottom plate which has a large plastic grid? Mine has an 18 large hole rectangular grid. I bought the Champion used so assumed it was not one of the new models and that this was not the finger guard you were talking about. Is this the finger guard? If so will cut the grid out.
The grinding of the beans came about 3/4 of the was through cracking them with the screen off and was not massive but enough to clog things up and had to clean the machine before I could proceed.

Yes, that grid is what I mean. Champion added it a little while ago. One of these days really soon I'll get some photos up showing it.

Yes, that is how they are now coming. When I first recommended using the champion for cracking, it was as the guard is on the right. Attachments:
