We're looking for a way to do small test batches (~200 gr) for new beans we acquire. We want to sample different roasting profiles, play with % of cocoa butter and vanilla, etc. The minimal requirement of ~ lb for the santha makes it a wasteful option, but the only other idea we've had is to use a blade coffee grinder. Any ideas? How do others refine their recipes without wasting tragic amounts of chocolate and time?

try to find a small mortar/pestle mill - such as a retsch mill - and you can do very small quantities. typically the mills are w few thousand dollars, hence the reco to look for used...

I've been wondering about this - why does the Santha require ~ lb minimum? What happens if you put in less? I ask because the Premier manual says its *maximum* load of dal (soaked pulses) is 180g/1 cup, and I wonder if the difference is between the two grinders or the type of usage.
