Hello, I was hoping someone could help me out. Historically, has licorice (roots) ever been used to make chocolate. I'm thinking that it might have been used because of the sweetest the roots have. If anybody has a reference to think this, I would appreciate greatly.

I'm not familiar with anything like this - though that doesn't mean it doesn't exist. You could certainly chop up licorice roots and they would be ground down to almost nothing by chocolate equipment, just like vanilla. Licorice is sort of sweet, but it also has a lot of, well, licorice taste. I have a hard time seeing it making a very good chocolate. Or at least the chocolate would be very non-traditional.
