For those of you interested in a deeper exploration of the genetics of cacao and its various travels over time, I just finished Bartley's The Genetic Diversity of Cacao and its Utilization: www.oup.com/us/catalog/general/subject/Agriculture/AgronomySoilCropScience/?view=usa&ci=9780851996196I think it's definitely worth a read. He provides a pretty in-depth analysis of the current understanding of cacao's overall genetic history, as well as regional narratives of how cacao was moved through various areas by people over time. Pretty fun reading (at least if you're like me and enjoy geeking out on the subject...)
