Hello to all! I am recently reading the book called "Like Water for Chocolate."I don't know about the rest of you, but, as a chocolate lover and chocochemist, the name of the book attracted my attention. What baffled me is a recipe to make hot cocoa. To make it one requires certain kinds of beans. They are: Soconusco Beans, Caracas Beans, and Maracaibo. I don't know if they are Venezuelan or not but I was told that they are. Are they? Chcocochemist J.R.L

I don't know if they are Venezuelan or not but I was told that they are. Are they? Chcocochemist J.R.L Yes, except for Soconusco, which is in Chiapas (Southern Mexico). Maracaibo and Caracas are very large Venezuelan cities, so you should be able to find them easily on a map. And by the way, when someone says Maracaibo or Caracas cacao, actually that could be just about anything since it means cacao shipped from that port. You'll also see Puerto Cabello fairly often.

And so for Caracas, the Ocumare fits the bill. That is where it comes out off.
In general, most any good bean will work for your recipes.
