Hello,
I am new to this and have just purchased some equipment to get started. I am still investigating beans, roasting and other issues. I know that I am going to be doing this a lot and would like to buy a large quantity of beans but do not want them to go bad if not used right away. What is the best way to store them and for how long would they last?
Thanks in advance for any help and suggestions.

Cool and dry and pest proof is your best bet.
I don't advertise this fact (maybe I should) but I blanket all of my stock under CO2 when it comes in. This suffocates any and all pests, larva, eggs, etc. that may (note, not "are") be present. I will not abide pesticides, so this is my approach. Cocoa moths can be a really issue, and if you are buying large quantities (especially if it is not from me), it is something you have to seriously consider.
Insects aside, each bean has a shelf life all it's own, but generally, a year or so is a good rule of thumb.
