i just received my spectra 11 wet grinder and there was a dent on the drum, I've tried turning it on putting sugar in there as they have suggested in the manual before using and it's soo loud! Is this normal? How do people leave it on in their homes and sleep while it's on??

This is not good, it just turned off on its own and its only been on for an hour and the motor feels hot,

Sounds like you got one with problems. When you just start them up and you're running stone-on-stone (and maybe when running with just sugar, too), they can be kind of loud, but they shouldn't be particularly loud when running with chocolate. Is the noise you were hearing from the bowl or from the motor?

Hi Ejahjah,
Where did you buy the Spectra 11?
On the dent, is it big? Obviously it's not ideal, but it may be OK and even smooth out over time.
As Ben explained, the machine can be loud if empty, or just running sugar, or if the tension nut is loose. Try tightening the tension nut and see if it helps, but the real test will be with chocolate ....
Was the motor so hot that you couldn't leave your hand on it? After one hour that would not be normal, unless it's very hot where you live ...

I think the concern with the motor was that it turned itself off (possibly from overheating) after just an hour of running.

Yes, these machines will typically auto-shut off if they overheat.
At the same time, I've never had the case where the motor got so hot that I could not leave my hand on it, so if it does get that hot, yes this could mean the motors shut off because of overheating, which is not normal after one hour unless the ambient temperature is over 40C.

I read in the manual that it has a auto shut off for 5-10min when over heated, but it was only for 1 hr but in saying that it turned back on automatically after 10min, It was hot but I could still leave my hand on the motor, I bought it from buyindiankitchen.com The dent is towards the top of the bowl it's significant but not huge, I've emailed them and asked for a replacement as its evident it was damaged during shipping, I've only tried sugar in it Im still waiting on my beans, but what I found helped is the scraper was too close to the bowl so I unscrewed it and did it again and it stopped making that rhythmic ee ee ee noise, the bowl however when I put it in the machine the axil in the middle of the bowl is not centred 100 % it's to one side.
I live in Australia and the temperature is pretty average for our spring, 23 degrees Celsius
