FINALLY..... After 8 years I have put in place an order and delivery system. For those of you out there who have always wanted to try my company's chocolate, we are now taking orders and shipping throughout North America. Oh.... and I have updated our website too, so would like feedback on that. Please give our order system a try. I would like to work out any kinks before the Christmas season approaches! Let us know you saw this on John's site and I'll throw in an extra bar free of charge! Cheers Brad Churchill Choklat

Hi Brad
first, let me just thank you for all of the information you have shared on this forum and over on Chocolate Life over the years. I'm sure many of us who are just starting out have learned so much from yourself and others here and I really appreciate it. I'm based in Australia, so while I can't order from your web site, I thought I'd at leasts have a look and provide you with some feedback.
First of all, let me say that your web site looks great. Nice clean design, easy to understand navigation and good copy. It was cool on the order form to see how many of each bar you have on hand, nice. One thing I was looking for and could not find for the bar orders: how big is a bar? OK, so I'm paying $9.99 for it, that's cool, but am I getting a 100g bar, an 80g bar or maybe a 65g bar? Also, is that USD or CAD (I know it's not AUD!)? Probably CAD, but if you're shipping to Americans, they'll want to know. Last one: the web site looks so nice, but that window that pops up when ordering is so ugly, ouch. Looks like it was designed in 1998.

Mark; Thanks for the feedback. The order form is a bit outdated, and I'll be working on adding more dynamic images over the next couple of weeks. It is very complex though, and I'm not keen on changing something that works well. (Just that screen alone is over 4,000 lines of code! Yikes!) What makes it difficult is the custom truffle section. I will definitely add the weight of the bars. Good idea for sure. check this out: try.choklat.com I am experimenting with some food photography to add to my resume! haha! Cheers Brad

Brad -
I logged in and got a screen asking me for my postal code. I entered it (78231) without any order information and it told me it would be $80.00+ for shipping. Is that correct? Also, some of the links for specials simply show that the special is no longer available. ($120 set for $60). Any reason those are up there or do you just like taunting us! <G>

Hi Brian.
That promotion has in fact ended at the end of August, and all of the buttons on the screen are disabled and labelled "This Promotion Is Over". I've left the domain active, because many search engines will still keep referring to it.
On our main ordering screen, we require that you get an estimate for shipping BEFORE you go about placing your order. We can do this because we know after over 120,000 orders, what the average weight is of one of our online orders. The price is based on overnight delivery from our destination to yours to preserve the quality of what you are purchasing. While chocolate bars have an almost indefinite shelf life and can withstand a week in a truck and plane, a box of fresh hand-made truffles or baked goods wont, so again, we need to prepare YOU the customer for what it might cost to order luxury chocolate delivered safely to your door an in the condition you would expect luxury chocolate to arrive in.
There is tweeking that needs to be done for sure. One thing that will significantly reduce the cost of delivery is not ordering truffles or baked goods. I still have to write the algorithm which, at the time of final calculation, obtains a revised quote on shipping based on 5 business days IF there are no perishables in the order. This will drop the shipping cost from $80 to about $20.
Also, I am currently working on modifying the try.Choklat.com promotion screen to incorporate our new drinking chocolate mix that I am releasing in time for Christmas sales. That will be the promotion for the last couple of weeks this month and launches on Monday next week.
I hope that explains things a bit.
Cheers Brad
