There are lots of different types of chocolate. Plenty of countries make different types of chocolate from Switzerland to Belgium. I personally live in the United States of America, which we make all types of chocolate and chocolate products. For example, we make hershy bars, kit kat, reese's, and plenty more! I am telling you right now America doesn't make as good chocolate as a lot of other countries. So lets get right into it with the basic chocolate types.
Milk Chocolate
This chocolate, as in its name, contains milk powder, liquid milk, or condensed milk. Milk chocolate was made by a German company " Jordan and Timaeus" in 1839. Milk chocolate has a sweet taste compared to dark chocolate. Milk chocolate is sweetened with milk (obviously) and different sugars and sweeteners.
White Chocolate
This chocolate is mostly made out of sugar, up to 55%. It contains some milk and the rest cocoa fat and/or cocoa powder.
Dark Chocolate
It contains mostly all cocoa solids, cocoa butter, and non-fat cocoa solids. It has no sweeteners or sugars (or at least a small trace of it). It is the most bitter of all the basic chocolates. Most people that like sweets usually won't eat this chocolate, unless they are making brownies, cookies, or anything along those lines.
Bitter Sweet Chocolate
Bitter sweet chocolate usually contains up to 85% cocoa solids. It is very low on sugar, which gives it that bitter taste. But it also has that hint of sweetness from the little bit of sugar. This chocolate is often used for cooking or baking.
Unsweetened Chocolate
This chocolate is only used for cooking. It doesn't taste good, except if you put it into a recipe like brownies.
Here Are Some Different Types of Chocolates That Are More Specific......
Switzerland Chocolate Truffles
These chocolates are made from dark, milk, white, and many more different types of chocolate. Most truffles have a design of some sort on it. Whether it is lines crossing over each other to little circles there is some sort of design in them. Truffles are small little ball shaped chocolates that are filled with chocolate, cream, and different sorts of fillings.
Belgian Pralines
Pralines are soft centered chocolates cased in chocolate. Praline in Europe is most often suggested to caramelized hazelnuts or almond ground into paste.
Italian Chocolate Truffles
These truffles are made with nuts and powdered sugar. Then they are covered with premium chocolate. Then they add liqueur and other flavors. Then they usually top it off with more nuts or chocolate.
