Hi we just acquired a cocoatown ECGC-65 and we are having problems because of an oil leak on the gear box, has anyone else had a similar problem? We were thinking about buying a couple more of these machines but if its a regular issue we'd better reconsider...

The ECGC-65s definitely leak oil through the oil breather. I believe that means they are overfilled, so you may want to be careful when changing the oil.

Welcome to cocotown. My brand new machines spewed oil and black rubber flakes from the mis aligned belts to the point where I had to spend hours cleaning them. I called and they told me they had probably overfilled the oil. No dung! It looks like they are still blindly overfilling them so that every person who buys one gets the intimate experience of cleaning out the entire thing after oil starts leaking on the floor.
My cleaning of the machines lead to exposing so much minibike technology and backyard junk drawer craftsmanship that I almost fell off my bucket. I can't believe that these guys are getting away with this.
If you are going to buy two more of these machines, please email me first and lets make a better one. Grinduers suck. And the big joke is that I need another one or two also and there are no alternatives.

I can confirm what pcm says. After my first batch in my grindeur I noticed black residue coming out from under the bowl. I called and they said this was normal. About 30 batches later I open the machine to find a totally shredded belt, and black belt soot everywhere (not to mention parts freely dangling because their screws fell out, and electrical wiring at risk of being cut open on un-smoothed cuts through the housing). Despite the problem clearly being present throughout the warranty period, they refused to replace the belt. The best part, is that the belt I put on hasn't spewed any soot, and i'm about 10 batches into it.
If you want a real fun conversation, call and ask them what type of oil to put in the gear box. THEY HAVE NO CLUE!! Sorry to rant, but their product support seems to be to just say whatever is happening is OK and then wait out the warranty (the center support peg on mine came loose after my first 10 or so batches, they said it would be ok, now its slowly shredding itself down and soon will be non-functional. Something tells me they won't replace that either. I'm stuck with two of their machines (one of which is an oil-leaking ECGC-65 that I bought used), and there is no alternative.
Count me in for building a better one, I know fabricators with hygienic welding certs, granite suppliers, and a UL-certified electrician (email me directly at oka-road-mail-@-yah-oo.com (remove the hyphens))

Count me in too.
We changed the oil before running the machine the first time. The instructions talked about looking through the window to look at the oil level, but ours had no window.
The entire pulley mount fell to the bottom of the machine during my second batch (less than 15 hours of run time). They are sending me another part but I need chocolate now. The new set up is supposed to have more than one set pen so the key will not come out so easily.
The temperatures are also running higher than I like. An additional venting and/or fan would be good.
The way the back and front portions come apart is awkward. The wires for the fan make it more difficult to change the oil.
I have found Jeff to be the most helpful on getting answers.
