When I was disinfecting myself on Sunday after taking a sh&t shower trying to fix a clog in my pipes down in the basement, it occurred to me that it was probably the refuse from the chocolate batches I have been making that caused the clog. We are hoping to eventually upgrade our operation to an actual shop and we will be making even more messes. How do you guys clean up your equipment/spatulas/bowls etc? I can't imagine pouring it down the drain again after what I went through. YUK!!!
Thanks pcm

I hit everything with a heat gun (paint stripper) and scrape all the chocolate off onto baking paper to keep for next time. Minimum chocolate down the sink.

Lots of paper towels - and a fat trap, home made. A cold water tank with a baffle across the top to hold the chocolate until it solidifies. Still have to clean it out but it doesn't bblock the drains at least.

Redstar, thanks for sharing. If you have time will you share a pic? I'm having trouble visualizing this.

Today I just filled a bucket with hot water and sponged off 99% of the chocolate, then brought my stuff over to the sink to clean it. Dumped the chocowater in my back yard. That worked nicely.

Hot water and a commercial grade degreaser.
We've been dumping everything down the drain now for a couple of years with no trouble at all.
Degreaser's the key though...

I don't have a photo and it looks pretty ordinary. It is a plastic cold water tank about 2ft x 15" with a high level entry at both ends. Across the middle is an aluminium baffle about 2" high. Waste water comes in from the pipe on entry on the left, as it flows across to go out the right hand pipe exit it is disturbed by the baffle which slows it down enough for the chocolate to cool down and sink. Every now and then you have to take a deep breath and drag the mostly solid mess and throw it in the bin. I have a long run from the sink to the drain so I'm not sure degreaser would work - I haven't tried. This was so cheap it had to be worth trying.
