Hi My 16 year old son has been given a task for Hospitality Science to make chocolate at home. He is as boarding school, so has to do this over a weekend. After reading and studying what all you chocolate people are doing I have decided SHE IS MAD. No 16 year old can quickly produce chocolate, especially when you like 300km from any major centre that sells anything like cocoa butter. Do any of you have advice what he can do?

i would agree that his teacher is mad. you cant make chocolate over a weekend especially without experience and equipments (that is if were talking about bean to bar). He can probably buy a chocolate bar and melt it and mold it again using some kind of plastic container but with enough time chocolate is not impossible to make for a 16 years old. a 13 year old girl did it. check this out. www.amyschocolate.jkchocolatetruffles.com/

That's amazing. There was a way to contact her, so I wrote to her to invite her to this forum. Maybe she will have some things to share. Sincerely, Alan

99.9% of the time when people say "make chocolate" they mean to simply melt and (usually) temper chocolate into a new form, or perhaps prepare a simple ganache. Often the chocolate is used in an interesting form or project, from simply coating nuts to re-forming the chocolate. The art is in handling the chocolate, not making it per se.

hi alan,
yes i did invite amy to the site. i've had a few emails with her asking for some 'tips' as well. she's getting her tips from people in the industry as well. she does use interesting machines to process her chocolates too.
