I need to find a cheaper way of coating nuts, coffee beans etc in chocolate. I'm not really down with springing for 800 dollars with of equipment to do this. Any ideas on cheaper equipment or alternative methods?

I came across this small cement mixer as I, like you, was searching for something cheaper to use as a coating pan. Many people shot it down as not being food safe, but IMO with a new coat of epoxy paint on the inside and paddles it should be good to go. I still haven't bought one but will probably take the plunge sometime soon. www.northerntool.com/shop/tools/product_200356927_200356927The other, less expensive (but still 500 bones) alternative to a motorized pan is one that uses a Kitchen Aid or Viking mixer as it power source, like this: www.dr.ca/confectionery-coating-pan-attachment.html

Read somewhere the idea to get the cement mixer, but swap the mixing vessel for one of the large Hobart mixer bowls. that way at least the bowl is food safe (and won't rust if you get a chip in the coating)
