I'm trying to figure out how to winnow more efficiently, in terms of time, yield, and completeness. At some point I'll get around to building some better tool for winnowing, but for now I'm using hairdryer. First, I want to figure out whether there is a better way to crack the roasted beans into nibs.
I've been using a Champion juicer with no screen in place. It's very fast and quite easy, and reasonably clean now that I've learned to drape a cloth over the entire bowl before starting. But I'm worried that the nibs are very uneven, with too many small particles of nib and husk. Does the Crankenstein do a better job of cracking to a consistent size?
I'm contemplating buying one, but would like some feedback first as to whether it would be an improvement.

Aloha ! The crackenstien is good for the home chocolate maker. I'm sure there are bigger professional models out there that do large quantities. I do mine with a cordless drill attached to the shaft of the crankenstien{take handle off]. I can't stress how much my winnower has helped me keep my chocolate processing time down. it's like the cotton gin must have been like. Build a tray over your container or use an old refigerator shef screen that will hold crackenstien up but let nibs fall thru. Aloha Sharkman

That's exactly the information I was looking for, and no, I had not yet seen it. Guess I should go through and read all the blog posts! The problem was that I was spelling it wrong (to match Frankenstein) and thus my searches missed the correct spelling. I was confused why I found so few matches... Still interested in hearing others' opinions, but right now it's looking like I should get a Crankandstein and build myself a winnower. Thanks John!
