I roast my own coffee with the IR2 and wondered if it could handle small batches of cocoa beans. Any experiences or advice?

I'm roasting cacao in a Diedrich IR-12 coffee roaster and it works beautifully! You may want to check with John on your roaster to see if he has any insights about how it will work. The issue will likely be the stirring vanes in the drum. If they're too wide, the cacao beans may get hung up in them.

I found the biggest issue with the I-Roast was the capacity. It will roast cocoa, but I never recommend it because the batch size is so small - just a few ounces, it didn't seem 'approachable'.

That's kinda what I figured. I suppose I will start with the oven. But, I imagine I will eventually graduate to a drum of some sort. I really like playing with the flavor profiles of coffee and can imagine wanting to do so with cocoa.
