Hi Everyone! At enliven cacao we incorporate 3 methods of sorting cacao beans. Those methods include volunteered empowered sorting, vibrating gravity sorting, and optical machine based sorting, each of which we are constantly refining to improve the product. The method we’ll be focusing on in this thread is our table/gravity sorting machine. Attached are images of the most recent iteration of our table sorting machine. Built over the corse of a year, with constant refinements still being made, it is one of our most valued projects. Our main goal in this build was to sort out flats, unusable debris, dust, and small rocks from the good beans. We also wanted to keep it light and compact enough to easily disassemble and store. Using a wooden table, stainless steel mesh netting and vibrating motor, we came up with a system that excelled at doing just that. With this setup we can high quality sort a 60 kg bag in under an hour. We will be using this thread to track and refine our progress as we continue to use this new equipment. If you have opinions, thoughts or ideas that may be helpful please don’t hesitate to respond in this thread or direct message me. Great relationships foster great beans that produce great chocolate, Carlos Ruiz Operations Assistant Enliven International
