Just taking a breif survey of what people want for molds. I don't really want to carry a wide selection, but do want to carry want people want and need.
I personally like the bar molds as they are so classic. Do people want "professional" molds that run $12-20 each?
Any interest in up coming easter molds? Eggs, rabbits?
Something else?

I would like to see thin bar molds for dark chocolate, Maybe something with a dozen bars in a mold. Is there any way we could get vanity bar molds, with text or pictures? Our name? How about the chocolate chips or chunks mentioned in another thread? How about a bar with a nude lady, or nude man for the ladies, embossed?
thanks for asking

John;
Thin bar molds would be great.
Also, large bar molds too - you know, like the big oversized bars you can buy in the store when a simple two ouncer just won't satisfy the need? They're great for gifts too.
Brad.

I have a question about molds. Are the metal ones more difficult to use than plastic? Does plastic have some kind of technical advantage over metal or is it just cheaper? I found this website for antique chocolate molds and was thinking that maybe I could make some of my own. What kind of metal are they made out of? Are they tin? I was thinking of trying to make some metal molds but if I made plastic wouldn't I have to be concerned about toxicity?

Metal typically will allow for faster heat removal, meaning that they tyipcally 'work' better. however, they also dent and you run the risk of shaving off metal filings if not careful. Most plastic ones work just fine - i'd stay away from the very heavy moulds with lots of detail as my experience has been that they tend to get hot spots.

What do you mean by hot spots? If I knew what this was then maybe I could keep it in mind when designing a mold. Are these typically tin?

Hot spots are areas that, when the chocolate demoulds, are a different color. They're typically whitish spots and/or streaks.

I will keep an eye out for shark molds.
I have a new thin bar mold in that once I get pictures, will be available.

I was wondering if you could get molds that give chocolates of a specific weight. I know the density of chocolate can change depending on make-up. What I wanted was a bar when broken will give squares of around the 5 gram mark or single mold of about 5 grams. Reason is I like to make hot chocolates and I know roughly how much of particular bars to break off but this is for when making my own.

Actually, all of the molds I have come with a (average) weight in the description. The 2 oz bar mold, well, holds 2 oz and breaks into 10 pieces. Right there, each piece is very close to 5 grams (5.6 g I think).
Is that what you mean?

Yeah, that is handy to know, idealy I wanted to cast say individual beans or squares that were 5g each.

I just had a look and worked out the 4oz mold each square is a touch over 4grams. I think that might do well. If you do come across any plain shaped molds with a weight of 5g or 0.18oz then let me know. Cheers
