I'm interested to hear of any recipes people might have for chocolate in savoury dishes. I hear that in French cooking there is a chocolate sauce for game but the recipes I've seen all use dark chocolate. Could this be because unsweetened chocolate is not widely available therefore a compromise?

there are a number of recipes that are worthy of consideration. There are chocolate pastes like Mexican moles, blue cheese and dark chocolate, and goats cheese and dark chocolate for a start!

Cracked and winnowed nibs are delish in yogurt, with a little granola - not that it's savoury, but wanted to throw that in. Also good on a salad with chopped oranges and slivered almonds. Crushed nibs are great in spice rubs for meats - especially pork and beef, but also work well on chicken and salmon depending on the combination. Next dinner party I have, I'll do a cheese ball cloaked in crushed nibs.
Mole is an all day deal, to do it right.....I think Alchemist has a good recipe, right John?
A friend makes some amazing plain sourdough baguettes, having spread melted semisweet chocolate on the dough before being rolled up to rise. It's a great taste....the sourdough and the chocolate!

Love this discussion, for me chocolate is an all day thing from breakfast to after dinner. Not that it's a regular day but the idea is awesome I think.
Some of my favourite savoury recipes with chocolate is a beef stew with chili and chocolate. I love to grate some dark chocolate over my beef tartare. Making a mushroom sauce based on cream with some chocolate in is also fantastic.
Is there still someone out there eating chocolate for dinner?

Yes, I Love this discussion, definitely chocolate is the only thing that we have to like any time. Some of my favorite chocolates are handmade and hand-printed Gourmet Chocolate from Cacao and Cardamom chocolatiers.
