I'm test-roasting beans in several small batches (just tasting the nibs at this point), and am curious how others have recorded their roasting tests.
I have seen John's (very helpful) spreadsheet but I'd like to develop a slightly more visual graph style method of recording the process and batches. Will surely develop my own graph, but curious if others have examples that you'd be willing to share.

PS - I'm currently roasting the Chiapas beans from chocolate alchemy - interestingly, they taste delicious at most points on my roasting chart, just different. It will be very difficult to decide which roast to proceed with for my first batch!

Why not use a software like it is used in coffee roasting such as the free Artisan software. github.com/MAKOMO/artisan/blob/master/README.mdThat software works perfectly to automatic log and annotate a roast with temperature probes, but it also has a manual mode. The expert can even use it to control/automate the roast if the equipment supports this.

I second the suggestion of Artisan. It'll do exactly what you want. I use it with a data logger to automatically graph my roasts.

i use a sheet i made in Excel, really simple to do.
I put temperature on the left from 60C to 200C and time in 1 min increments along the bottom, creating a grid.
Then I use a seconds timer app in my iPhone to ring every minute when i plot the temperature on the graph. After roasting is finished I draw in the curve I have plotted out.
I also have a few other places to record ambient temperature, humidity, bean type, amount roasted, date and time.
On the other side of the sheet is all my batch info that will accompany the batch as it is made in to chocolate.

Where can I find it ? Thank you
