Hi There, Just got a Santha Spectra 11 (actually santha cherry as they call it now: santhagrinders.com/details.php?p_id=3&pname=Cherry#example-1-tab-2 ). It runs fine, grinds well (with a little bit of tilting going on, which upon reading this forum does not seem to be an issue). After I run it for a couple of hours, it feels warm to the touch (not unexpectedly - it's not hot, I can definitely leave my hand on the motor cap) but also starts releasing some "appliance" smell - I would describe it as the smell of a motor working (possibly heatign oil etc..), not very pleasant (which forces me to run it away from the kitchen, in a room that is cooler, making it hard for the chocolate to stay above 100F). Is this normal? Is this part of the breakin process?

So out of curiosity I opened the casing of the Santha, and I found a small amount of poswder/shavings inside, which from what I read in this forum is probably coming from the belt. I inspected the belt itself and it looks OK .
So I take it is possible that some bits if the belt got shaved and are now being heated by the motor, creating the smell. I wiped and vacuumed the inside of the casing, however I'd like to make sure that the belt itself is also properly tightened, and that it is not going to keep being eaten ....
I wouldn't say it is currently loose, but if I press it inwards, there's definitely a bit of wiggle room. Should it be tight tight?

The Santha belts are known for needing to be replaced relatively soon after purchase. Search the forums (here and Chocolate Life) and you'll see plenty of talk about the type of belt to use to replace it with (I can't remember the details at the moment)

The PowerTwist fiberglass link belt is generally what is recommended. I used them for years on my belt-driven melangers and never had to replace, or even tighten, them.

Yep, that's it, although I believe the Santha uses a 3/8" belt. And yes, it can be adjusted by adding or removing links.

Does anyone know if you can get one of these belts to fit the Premiers? I purchased a 10mm wide one but it was too big (oops!)
