I have a test batch from PNG, (not via John) and I have found a number of stringy weevily beans and a few with cocooned months in them. Since I found them during cracking, post roast, I assume the roast killed them, but would they have been alive pre roast? And how many is too many? Does one accept just more protein in the chocolate or is it a reason to be weary of the beans and supply? I am in New Zealand and I suspect that they are fumigated at the border, so dead on arrival, but I guess I should CO2 them or something.

If in doubt about a foreign insect/animal, contact quarantine control who will advise you. They may also want to see the critters, so take a picture if you can, or freeze some in an ice cube. (half fill, add insect, set, top up, insect won't float)
