I've recently been making my own chocolate. I happen to love it, but I dread the winnowing process. Cracking is no biggie, although I will probably get a crankenstien soon. I live in an apartment with no out doors and when I winnow I end up getting husk and dust everywhere. I've tried using a screen, a bag. Finally on my last batch I peeled each bean by hand. It took forever, but the end result was some prety awesome tasting chocolate. I only peeled a pound and a half of beans so it wasn't too bad. Is there any other way than the hair dryer? I saw the winnowing machine at the Scharffen Berger factory and it seems like someone could make a miniature version of it. Any help or ideas are greatly appreciated! Thanks

We made our winnower from this design: www.saveseeds.org/tools/tool_winnower_electric.html . We added a u shaped pipe to direct the output into a large garbage can. It makes a little bit of dust mess that easily vacuums. In order to get no mess we are going to try to replace the blower with a vacuum at the opposite end. Or maybe use both a blower and vacuum.
