So premier has a new stainless steel stone holder you can buy as an upgrade for your smaller or large/tilting tabletop refiner. Does anyone have any thoughts on this? I'm really tempted to get it - it looks like a great upgrade and might reduce mess and waste a bit (well that is how they are marketing it LOL): www.melangers.com/collections/spare-parts/products/stainless-steel-stone-holder-smallIf no one here has tried it out or has strong points against it I might give it a try and let you all know how it goes. Thanks! -Fred

I haven't tried it, but it looks like an interesting upgrade. It looks like it would completely solve the issue of unrefined bits getting stuck up in the plastic stone holder.

When I first got my Premier and was having all the problems with chocolate being wicked out and into the motor I called them and Bhavani recommended the SS stone holder. It really didn't make a difference.

I’ve got it.. only thing I’m happy with is that the baffles aren’t so annoying and that it’s a lot less scraping. But that’s about it rly. I see it more as a convenience piece.

Thank you jmm - yes I think this is pretty much all I expect is a somewhat easier scraping process. I'll have to think a bit more about if this is worth the upgrade... Chip - any thoughts on whether it makes scraping and cleaning any easier? Thanks!

Chip - When you reference chocolate wicking out, are you referring to the chocolate being drawn up into the plastic stone holder and down the center shaft of the bowl? That still happened with the stainless holder? I thought that happened due to the plastic stone holder and the bowl shaft causing suction somehow, which wouldn't happen with just the center shaft of the bowl.

Ben, Yes, it still happened. I even tried putting some aluminum tape over the hole.
What finally stopped it was the new design plastic stone holder they came out with.

Ben Chip - yes I can confirm that the model I have never had the wicking problem - but I think this must be the redesigned version (bought it in 2018). Actually Chip recommended it to me and even mentioned all the improvements that had been made to the original design - I was sold!
