Half an inch lateral movement appears to be part of the design. Both of mine have that. If you observe the wheels while the melangeur is running you'll see that they don't actually move laterally at all. So I think that part of your issue is actually a non-issue. The bushings detaching from the actual granite appears to be a separate problem. Right on. Quick point: it is the Lifesaver-shaped (replaceable) inserts that are detaching, certainly not the glued plastic sockets/rims that are permanently fixed inside the granite wheels. Just some clarification for anyone reading.

Hi,
I am having the same issue with the new Spectra 11. I have an old model whose bushings were permanently affixed to the rollers. The new ones are not and the bushings come out while melanging. Chocolate then gets into the axle area and causes the roller stones to stop moving. I bought my melanger from John but I have not heard back yet in response to my email. It seems that the bushings are a tad too small.
Ben do you know if John is away?

It seems that the bushings are a tad too small. Ben do you know if John is away? Spectra was very quick and efficient about sending upscaled, replacement "bush bearings," as Spectra calls them. From opening a case with them to delivery here in Florida, USA was maybe two and a half weeks tops. Very impressive. They included eight which were a few microns larger and hammered very effectively into the mounts, as well as four original bearings which I tested and found were too small for the mount. Note that by "bush bearings" we are referring to the smaller lifesaver sized insert, not the bearing housing which is made of the same white plastic and permanently epoxied to the granite. For the record, I was able to work temporarily by melting the bush bearing outer edge slightly w/ a lighter and scoring the original bushings on their edges, careful not to scorch and create a bad smell/taste or discoloration. This created a tiny and useful material buildup to the outside and allowed the old, undersized bearings to be hammered in and serve the purpose as a temporary, home made solution (The resulting inconsistency allowed a bit of chocolate to get behind the bearing however). I recommend contacting Spectra and requesting the same units that they sent Kelly Warner in Florida, "slightly big" according to the handwriting on the package. Please note that these were no cost and free shipping as it is quite honestly a defect. They handled it very professionally.

Kelly, do you have a phone number for Spectra? I have sent them an email at info@spectraplaza.com but have not heard back. Or is there another email that you might have? Anthony

Thanks. They have gotten back to me as well as John. They are sending me the same bushings that they sent Kelly and they are looking at getting me a tight fitting lid. John suggested I calculate the rpms which should be just above 100. When I counted, the rpms were 130 and above which seems to be the reason why there is tremendous spraying; hence the reason for the need for the tight fitting lid. I guess I have a Formula 1 Melanger!
