So I bought some cocao beans from a local artisan shop and brought them home to roast, but it almost seems like they are already roasted. Calling the shop didn't help as they said they provide both roasted and unroasted beans. The beans seem to peel easily when rolling in your fingers and about half of them will completely separate from the shell just by adding some force. I don't have enough experience to tell if they are roasted or not. Any tips?

Im very new to this to but I've read that it can be very hard to tell just by looks if they are roasted or not. Also some of my beans is pretty easy to peel raw. I have a very good and reliable source where I buy my beans so I'm positive they are raw. I was thinking just like you first but after a couple of roast I got the feeling, they are even easier after I roasted them. Also not just some beans, every bean...
Cheers,
