Hello,
I've used the PowerTwist V-belt 3/8'' both for my Santha 11 and Premier Grinder. It usually holds for about 500-600 hours (I also used to remove one link after 48 since the belt stretches).
I got the impression by searching in this forum and others that the belt should be durable for thousands and thousands of hours almost without wear, does it?
Any thoughts/tips? how long does your belt hold?
Thank's!

I'm not sure I've ever had to replace a powertwist belt in any machine I've put on in. But, I'm not sure how many hours I've run a machine after putting one in place. I used to use the older Cocoatown Deluxe Melangers (predecessors to today's ECGC-12SL) and replaced all the stock belts with powertwist. I used those machines for about three years without replacing the powertwist belt.

I used those machines for about three years without replacing the powertwist belt. Wow, that's encouraging! I'll double check what is happening in my machines. We are talking on the V-belt rather than round, aren't we? Thank's

Hi LLY.
Yes. You want the V belt. If you use the rounded belt it will slip. I've been using the V-belt for over 13 years now (since I first sourced it out and published it on this site for everyone else), and it works great.
It will stretch a small amount, but you can easily remove links and tighten it up again.

LLY: Yep, as Brad says, definitely the V-belt. I started using them on his recommendation 7 or 8 years ago and ever since, the one of the first things I've done when getting a new grinder is to replace the stock belt with the link belt.
Chip: In larger machines, the belt usually makes things noticeably quieter. With the little premiers, I've found it to either make no change or add a tiny bit of noise. I'm surprised to heat that it's a lot louder for yours.

Actually, it's the stone holder making the noise. I don't know why, but after this batch is done I'll do some investigating.

PS: Getting the belt on was a bear! Unless I did it wrong. I put it on after measuring and then completing the belt. Is that the way it should be done? By completing the belt I mean it was a closed circle/loop.

I think that's the right way to put the belt on. I don't think you'd be able to link it up while on the pulleys.
Here's a couple tips that I learned long ago that may help when working with these belts:
When adding and removing links, it's a lot easier if the belt is turned inside out. This makes the connecting pieces stick out and are easier to manipulate.
When putting the belt on the pulleys, start with the small pulley than then put it onto the larger pulley as much as you can. Then turn the larger pulley while holding the belt in place. The belt should snap into place. It takes some work, but is easier than trying to just stretch the belt into place by hand.

I need some help. I put my new powertwist belt on and my grinder ate it up. Literally. Ate. It. Up. Now, I had the belt on with the "nubs" on the outside. Is this correct? Here are some pictures. I am stumped.
