My friend and I are new to the chocolate business (and I mean brand new!) We are looking at the idea of having home chocolate and wine pairing parties, where we give small samples of our chocolates, pair them with a sample of local wines and then take orders for the chocolate. Our thoughts are that we are making chocolate based on orders from these parties so as not to keep a large inventory of the finished product. We would not be selling the wine but rather educating our home tasters as to the kinds of wines that best go with certain chocolates we offer. This idea of a home party (think Pampered Chef or tupperware, not a real party) is what we are using to build our reputation as chocolate makers and at some point have a brick and mortar establishment where people could come into our shop, order a glass of wine and some chocolate and sit and enjoy local string musicians. Our niche would be that everything about our business is local from the hand made chocolates to the wine to the performing artists. Picture in your mind a speakeasy for chocolate and wine lovers. We would really appreciate your feedback on this idea or any suggestions that might make this a success.

Sounds like a great idea, the key in my opinion will be to get that perfect match between the different chocolates and the wines. That's what you'll be known for. So if you can nail that, you're good. Also, love the idea about everything being local.
