Hi there,
My next phase in my chocolate business is underway and I'm now looking at packaging. I'll use wax coated paper foil for the under layer but does anyone have any ideas or suggestions for the main packaging material. Is there a special folding technique? I've done lots of graphic design in the past so I've considered designing my own paper and having it printed (then wrapping each bar). This seems a time consuming and fiddly option, therefore, could pre made slimline boxes work instead?
Small business owners, what do you do? Any favourite suppliers? I'm based in the UK btw.

Hi there, I would suggest off the shelf packaging from keylink, hb Ingredients or meridian and a printed label with your design.... (You have no idea how jealous I am of your design skills here! Can't afford that bit yet! Flexilabels do a wide range of of labels and will print your design at a decent price with quick turnaround. Hope this helps

For your chocolate business, consider the balance between customization and efficiency in packaging. While designing your own paper can add a personal touch, pre-made slimline chocolate boxes might offer a quicker solution.

I always go for lowest price over efficiency, though I don't imagine boxes are actually that much faster if at all. I've been hand wrapping thousands of chocolate bars for 10 years just foil inner and paper outer, with a label to seal in place.

If you're wanting to sell your chocolate in a retail setting you'll soon realise that the packaging plays a HUGE role in how well your bars move. We moved from foil with outer paper wrappers (printed ourselves) to glassine bags with outer boxes (custom printed and die cut) and we definitely see our bars moving quicker in stores. Downside is you need to get large amounts of boxes made to keep the unit cost low enough. So we have thousands of boxes in our attic! If you have graphic design skills you'll be able to create a super attractive box I'm sure. Find a local printer that does custom boxes.
