Hi all, I recently purchased this chocolate refiner from Amazon, and I just ran it yesterday through vegetable oil and some sugar for about an hour to clean it as instructed. After washing the melanger, I noticed that there were indentations on the steel drum stone slab. Is this normal or did i put too much tension on the grinder? Is there a rule of thumb on how much tension i should be placing because I did not see any instructions for this in the manual. Also i noticed on the outside of my steel drum this is a small nick to the edges. I'm sure it is just cosmetics but this being my first melanger, I wanted to make sure this wont affect anything in the long run. Finally, After running the machine for an hour to clean the machine I noticed quite a bit of black rubbery dust around my machine. The table was completely clean before that. Is there something wrong with the internals, should I ask for a replacement? Thank you all!

Hi Simon,
The wear in the base stone is normal. I may put less tension on my Premier when I start with nibs. I don't pre-grind my nibs. Once the nibs grind down, I then put full tension until my chocolate is done. Others may do different. I have the original Premier which have cheaper belts that I have since replaced with link belts. The original belts created black dust that came out the vent holes. Your chocolate refine is suppose to have better belts. I suspect that this is the initial break in of the belts and gears. There is also a black nylon gear that will wear. I only saw black dust with my grinders and not small pieces. Just letting you know my experience.

Thanks for the reply Thomas! Glad to know the wear on the base of the stone is normal. My only real worry now is if my belt is already breaking apart.
I've sent some emails to the US distributors of the machine, but so far no responses yet. You could be right, maybe I'll try doing a cleaning run again to see if any more black dust comes out.

I have the same chocolate refiner model as you, and noticed the same black dust during our first few runs of the machine. I don't know if this is normal, but i stopped seeing it after a few runs and we've done at least 30 batches since. Remember to take off the wheels and do a thorough clean before your first batch and between batches.
