Hey US Folks,
I'd like recommendations for inexpensive cooling and packaging ideas to mail chocolate bars during hot weather? I'll be mailing up to about ten 50 gram bars at most.
Cheers, Dave

Thanks KTO! Do you send the flexible cold packs or the rigid kind? I'm assuming you place the cold pack on the outside of the insulation bubble wrap, so the chocolate can't get wet from condensation. Do you send in the flat rate USPS priority boxes?

For the best savings, try the "dry" packs that you hydrate yourself. www.cameronpackaging.com/Dry_Gel_Ice_Sheets.htmlWe use recycled shipping material (styrofoam planks mostly) to insulate also recycled Amazon and other shipping boxes. The key is to tape over all seams inside and outside. We put the ice pack in a sealed bag which is physically separated from the chocolate. with bubble wrap.

Thanks KTO. I just bought some of the dry gel packs, soaked 'em, froze 'em, wrapped then in plastic, and mailed them off with chocolate today. Three different boxes to different parts of the country. So, now I'll wait a couple of days for feedback.

I get free cold packs of varying sizes from my local suppliers of ingredients for beer. They get dozens of them in their shipments of yeast, and often throw them out. I just picked up a big bag today and the supplier was happy that someone could reuse them. I've never had them leak, but do put them in a zip-lock bag for shipping. Might check with your local brewers, wherever you are!
