I've been working with 2 scales for my chocolate making. One is a sharper image food scale, which goes down to 1/8th ounce, a little more sensitive than the other one. The bigger of the 2 has a 2g sensitivity (only goes up by 2 grams at a time) but has a larger capacity and a much larger surface; which I'm assuming the 2g sensitivity isnt an issue when I'm weighing out lbs of chocolate (beans/butter/sugar/etc)
The number one feature that irritates me to no end; Auto-Off. Both products swear it's auto-off is due to inactivity, but they go off while I'm trying to carefully weigh what's going into molds so that each piece is consistent. Inevitably, as I'm trying to carefully ladle the last little bit, spoon a bit off, and get it to the right size, the scale goes black.
Problem here is that I usually tare with the mold on the scale, so that each piece would be good; and I wouldnt mind it if I was able to at least finish a piece before it blanks out; but if I'm mid piece, the auto-tare tends to leave me in the dark and ultimately that piece ends up by being short or over.
Is there a good scale out there that wont simply auto-off for any reason? Cant these scale makers allow us to turn things off when we dont need them anymore? The larger of my 2 scales requires a plug, so it's not just battery conservation here.
Any suggestions for a better scale?

Thanks for the advice lilypa. Really just hoping to find something that simply doesnt shut off. Might need to go into the pro food market and find a deli scale or something like that.

Itsallaroundyou,
Out of curiosity, what resolution does your suggested scale display in grams? I like that the accuracy is 1 gram and it's capacity is crazy high (66 lbs). My scale, My Weigh KD8000, has a 1 gram resolution, but I couldn't find anywhere on the Interwebs or in the manual what it's stated accuracy is. I'm tempted to get a newer scale. I'm also tempted to, at a minimum, by a 50 gram calibration weight to check it.
Also, did your scale come with an AC power transformer/plug or did you have to buy it separately?
Cheers, Dave

Dave, my scale reads in 1 g resolution. I suspect its not totally accurate because the calibration weights i put on it tend to vary a bit, but they are small weights and can only check it in the lowest range, where accuracy is likely off a bit more (compared to the middle of its capacity). My scale did come with the charger plug.
A note on calibration weights....its almost not worth getting one that isn't NIST traceable (or with a similar certificate), otherwise you have no idea if the weight really is what its stated to be.
