Hey All,
Has anyone replaced the belt on their Santha Spectra 11 yet? If so, do you have a recommendation? I've read the threads regarding replacing the Santha Spectra 10 belt with a 3/8" V-Twist, etc. Does anyone know if the belt size is the same for the Spectra 11? I've only ever owned a Spectra 11 and I'm hoping that they're the same. I've searched around town for an equivalent belt and haven't found anything, even at a major auto parts distributor and a large appliance repair center.
I'm thinking I need a 3L345 sized belt, but these places only had 3L340 or 3L350 belts. The belt Santha installed has an outer circumference of 34.5", thus the 3L345. Santha doesn't actually list the belt specs on their web site. They're probably metric too.
Any help locating a better quality, non-factory-installed belt would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks, Dave

Well it took a while to find a place that had belts in stock. Either way, if you need a replacement belt for your Spectra 11 you'll need a 3L350 V-belt (3/8", 35" outer circumference). I ended up purchasing a Gates Truflex 1350 belt, which is equivalent to a 3L350, for $6.12 US. It seems to be working great so far. I guess you can get them on Amazon here for $5.00 + S&H: www.amazon.com/Gates-1350-Truflex-Belt-3L350/dp/B00B0627QI/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1359239747&sr=8-3&keywords=Gates+1350. I can't speak to the Power Twist belts as they were quite a bit more expensive, but that's an option too. You'll need at least 35". They seem to sell them in set lengths of say 4' or 5' or 25'. FYI...in one of the Spectra 10 posts, I think folks mentioned the need for a 3L380 replacement belt. If that's the case, then the Spectra 11 belt is differently sized. However, the discussion may have revolved around a Spectra 20 or 40. I can't recall. Cheers, Dave

I replaced mine with M34 V belt after the first run I have to tighten them. I've had 4 runs after the tighten and so far so good.

A quick Google search for an M34 V-belt doesn't come up with many options to purchase that type in the USA. Are you outside of the US? What's curious to me is that the M34 is a 34" outer circumference belt. The belt I purchased was 35" and seemed to fit ok. You had to tighten yours after the first use. I'm actually running my Spectra 11 with the new belt for the first time today. I guess I'll check to see if its too loose tomorrow. How did you tighten your belt? It wasn't obvious to me on the Spectra 11 if there was a tensioning system. Of course, I'm not super mechanically inclined.

Thanks. I'll crack it open soon and see about sliding the motor back a bit to tighten the belt up.
Cheers!

its imported to make sure your grinder is spinning fast and keep the belt tight as if it slows down and you don't get the heat you need to keep the chocolate warm when grinding it will break your belt or motor or both. This happened to me once, lucky I only broke the belt.

I wasn't able to get the Gates belt for my Spectra 11 today, as Amazon showed out of stock. I went to my local NAPA store and got their 3L340W and it fits just fine. Now, let's see if it gets through a batch of chocolate. My Spectra 11 hasn't been that heavily used, but the Contitech belt (made in Germany) that Santha puts in them is absolute garbage. Couldn't believe the amount of belt dust inside the case.

Yup!! If you find that the 3L340W belt you bought from Napa doesn't last long, I definitely recommended the PowerTwist belt. There's another thread on here that has a link to the exact one on Amazon for the Spectra 11.

One thing replacing the belt with a Power-Twist caused with my Spectra11 is STATIC! I imagine the fibreglass belt rubbing on the plastic wheel generates incredible amounts of static, as now, if you're not careful and prepared, touching the bowl will hit you with a bright blue spark! First time it happened I had a chocolate-filled ladle in my hand, and it surprised me so much that the ladle flew and there was chocolate everywhere!

I can confirm that happens! I was wondering why static electricity was building up on my Spectra 11 bowl. Makes sense, as I swapped over to the PowerTwist belt in May and hadn't had that problem the previous year and a half.

I believe the powertwist belts are still the best solution.
